Marcelo Guidoli, "Getting Off My Mountain of Prejudice" There is much I could say about this piece. Our individual values are indispensable to who we are. But at times they can also prevent us from gaining clarity by blinding us to what we might otherwise see. In this way the values that have been instrumental to our personal growth can keep us from growing further. There is also the problem that we often judge because we are afraid of our being judged ourselves; we believe that if we rush to judgment, our doing so will relieve us of the guilt that comes with feeling judged by others. When we are presented with a complex situations, we should consider suspending our values in order to look at the situation more clearly. And so we descend the mountain of our prejudices in order to gain clarity in the valley.
This image leaves the impression that sometimes it is difficult to get off that mountain; we may even risk falling. But then it is important to find our way toward a different mountain, the mountain of our values. When we do, then we will be able to ascend again, this time to greater heights. There are few processes for gaining clarity and toward living with a higher perspective than what I have just described. Guidoli is a truly talented artist, and I appreciate his kindness in allowing me use his image. See more of his work on his website and on his Instagram page.
